BECOME A MENTOR

Are you an experienced, working professional?
You may qualify as a Career Connection mentor.

Career Connection is looking for qualified mentors throughout the U.S. and Canada. If you are currently employed at a Film or Video Production studio, in a Recording Studio or at a Radio / TV Station, we may have a rewarding opportunity for you.

Find out if you meet our standards by calling us at (800) 800-9581, or by completing the online application. We'll contact you to discuss the procedures involved in being a Career Connection mentor, and the compensation for doing so.

How Does It Work?

Career Connection students work on assignments and projects from the course materials we provide. They do this on their own time. At a time convenient to both of you, the students deliver their assignments to you each week.

As their mentor, you evaluate the lessons, give them constructive criticism, and offer any additional instruction or advice that will help them in their development. In general, you "show them the ropes." Should you choose, you may allow the student to serve as an intern at your facility -- performing any tasks you deem educational, and for which the student is qualified.

As thorough as our curriculum is, all students understand that it would be virtually impossible to break into this business simply by completing coursework. That's where you come in. Nothing can replace the guidance and wisdom of an experienced professional. The combination of coursework and apprenticeship sessions with a working professional (you!), creates an effective training program that has successfully launched thousands of new apprentices into their chosen careers.

We make very clear to the students that there is no guarantee by either you or Career Connection that you will eventually hire them. Being hired at any facility (including yours) is totally up to the students' abilities, desire, and development. Of course some type of entry-level employment is obviously what is hoped for on all sides -- and what generally occurs, to the benefit of all parties concerned.

Career Connection has over 20 years of experience training apprentices in the media arts, and has been a member of NAB, NRAS, AFTRA, SAG and the Better Business Bureau. Over 80% of Career graduates have gone on to successful employment in Radio, TV, Audio, the Music Business, Film and Video production. However, if for whatever reason, the program is not working to your satisfaction, we will end the program and place the student with another company/mentor.

We're looking forward to working with you. With your help, along with our proven program, we can make a difference towards turning people's dreams into reality.

What Happens First?

Before they ever speak to you, Career Connection students have already been through a rigorous screening process. Only after they have met our guidelines do we arrange for them to interview with their potential mentor -- presumably you. Rather than an intimidating interview, this is a relaxed meeting that is intended to give the two of you an opportunity to get to know each other. The student will share their goals and desires related to this business. You might give them some background and information regarding how you got started. The point is to make sure you like and are comfortable with each other.

Assuming that you meet our mentor criteria, we work to match you up with a student in your area. If we don't currently have a student available, we will keep your information on file, and contact you the next time we do.

In closing, let me mention that Career Connection offers referral fees and incentives. I'd be happy to discuss these, or any other aspect of our Mentor Program with you. If you have any questions or concerns about the Career Connection program, don't hesitate to contact us at your convenience.
